looking for an inexpensive acoustic guitar?

this is for a 9 yr old who most likely will not take care of it so not really willing to spend big money but would like it to be true to note looking for brand suggestions around or under $50

Yeah, at that price you'll get a piece of junk. Even at $100 it's hard to find anything good enough for a beginner to actually learn to play on. A more reasonable price for a first guitar would be $150-300. It should be purchased from a store specializing in musical instruments.

    Not really realistic.

A couple Christmases ago a relative bought something like this for a cousin's kid. I think it mighta been a First Act. And this thing wasn't playable. Detuning as fast as you could strum. Fret buzz problems on first position frets. You coulda handed it to a virtuoso guitarist and he would've struggled to play a basic version of Mary Had A Little Lamb.

Take a look at Yamaha or Takamine. Both have good reputations for making cheap, playable beginner's guitars. They'll be a bit north of your price range, but not drastically.

PS: You can play on the kid's guitar too. They're actually kinda nice for when you're in a car and a regular-size guitar would be kinda bulky.

Yamaha f310 are one of the most popular guitars for 1st time buyers who don't want to spend money on a decent entry level guitar or know anything about guitars. You can pick them up for peanuts second hand. They are cheap ply wood and nothing special so it doesn't matter too much if its for a child who won't take care of it. They are quite strong and ok to learn with.

You're not going to get a playable guitar for that price - you'd need to double your budget at least..
