What is your opinion on being "politically correct" and the political correctness movement.?

I think it has good intention, but is cancerous to society.

Take NYC's "stop and frisk". Blacks and Latinos make up less than 30% of the population yet commit almost 80% of the crimes. I, being Hispanic, understand the racially motived injustice that comes along with this (I was stopped for carrying a heavy bookbag), however, when your demographic (especially saggy pants sideways hat) commits a majority of the crime, you can only expect the government to be on your side for so long.

Political correctness is taking over the media and really enabling racism. How long did the media try to milk George Zimmerman was white? Why are Tim Wise and Michael Skolnik on CNN trying to apologize for "white priveledge"?

Its time to stop pointing fingers and work on fixing your constituency's problems, not mask it.

Update:

Sarah, I never said I agree with stop and frisk. I just think the basis on which it is attacked (it blames everyone for the actions of a few) is completely false and really gets you nowhere.

I agree with political correctness to a degree. In your case, yes, I feel that laws like the one you presented are terrible. But I do see the point of them. I live in Idaho. Almost all the crime here is committed by white males. However, the population is about 95% white, so that sort of crime rate is to be expected. But if suddenly 30% of the crime was being committed by the 5% minority, I could kind of see a justification for laws that would inhibit them from committing so much crime.

I wish it weren't the case. But the problem isn't race in places like NYC, but the problem lies in other demographics. Poor people tend to resort to crime. Unfortunately poor people in NYC tend to be black. It's a direct correlation.

When the words brown bag and citizen are outlawed, we might be taking things a little to far.

All this is unconstitutional but necessary, but it is us to blame for making it necessary.

Lets start teaching our kids how to learn morals for themselves so we don't even need these ridiculous laws anymore.

If we learned morals, we wouldn't go around insulting people, or committing crimes.

i imagine your simile is imaginitive and ideal. computing device seeks to regulate societal momentum of idea. that is "Orwellian" in its attempt to position guilt on every person who dares to even imagine in a way opposite to the contemporary political correctness criteria. formerly contained in the 70's my brother informed me, " the only element that a nonconformist won't be able to face is yet another nonconformist who received't ascribe to the contemporary type of nonconformity." Intolerance is presented in a lot of varieties although the most threatening style is once you received't even pay interest to a valid communicate with someone who disagrees with you.

I guess treating people with respect and dignity has flown out the window. Political correctness is a new GAME. It IS ironic. The phrase has POLITICS involved. What if I admire people, but HATE politics? Will THAT be good enough?

I think you're just disguising racism under the term "politically incorrect."

Whites commit more drug crimes then black people, yet black people are eight times as likely to be jailed as white offenders.

Which makes your claims that blacks commit more crimes suspect.

Most of those cons who attack it are trying to justify racism, and most of those libs who defend it are pretending that TALKING differently will somehow stop racism.

How about we bypass the whole fake political show and actually DO something about racism?

It's odd to me that you find PC to be "cancerous to society" but don't find a violation of the 4th amendment to the constitution to be a clear cancer to society.

I hate to pull a hitler reference out, but this is exactly what led him to murder millions of Jews. He falsely blamed ALL Jews for the alleged actions of a few first century Jews.

Why insult a person who has done you no wrong? Why believe false stereotypes and deny reality?

Political correctness = common human decency, good manners.

Oh, it goes both ways. Have you heard any Conservatives use the terms "Reaganomics" or "trickle down economics" lately? NO, it was rebranded as "supply side economics."

political correctness goes along with the white liberal mentality. every white society deals with the kind of left-wing political correctness we see in the US. the common denominator is insane left-wing white people who drive the whole thing.
