What do you think about karma?

The Western concept of Karma is different from the Eastern concept of Karma.

Personally I think the Western version - a cosmic form of punishment - is a social construct to discourage people seeking revenge. Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people.

The Eastern version is that Karma is a teaching tool to help an individual to learn from past mistakes to become a better person.

From my POV I prefer to do good, not in the hope that good things will happen to me, I do good because it's the right thing to do. I recognise many of the bad things that happen to me are not solely because of my own actions.

I am an atheist and I believe that karma works within this single lifetime on a social level. If you are mean to people, then there are consequences for that. Your victims will not be as nice to you. People who see what you do to your victims will not be as nice to you. You might even encounter someone meaner than yourself, who will do something really mean to you because you were not nice to them.

So I don't believe anything supernatural regarding karma, but the term is useful to describe some of what goes on in human relations.

I have strived my entire life to be good,kind loving,loyal, have good character, honest etc and my precious daughter passed away 4 months ago. I don't think karma works. If it does it hates me anyway.

I dated her once. She wouldn't put out.
