need help with housing for college?

I am going to college next semester and the college i am going to is 2 hours away.I have college basically paid for with grants, but i need a place to live.I thought i would have money for housing..but it turns out i don't.I don't have parents and i don't know anyone in that area, so i don't have any support financially. The cheapest apartments in the area average about $1400 for a 1 bedroom and the cheapest being almost $1000 for a 300 sq feet studio..a full time job wouldn't cover the entire cost of living there.

I have no clue what to do.Are there any programs, grants, or something that can help me pay for housing?? If i don't find a way of getting housing, i cant go to college :(

If the school you're attending doesn't provide on campus housing, your best bet is go to craigslist.com or a similar source and look for someone who's looking for a roommate. However, if the option is available to you, on campus housing is extremely convenient in that you don't have rent and utility bills to pay, since (at the college I went to) it was factored into tuition.

Before focusing on an apartment, you'd need to secure a full time job to contribute your fraction of the rent and utilities, especially if you have extra expenses that are absolutely vital such as phone, car insurance. Certain people rely solely on public transportation or rides from their roommates/classmates in college. [Edit: a lot of colleges out there have a FREE campus bus service to and from campus housing!] Splitting the cost of an apartment while going to school is a huge relief when it comes time to pay your share of the bills. It's even better if there is already more than one person living in the apartment, because that reduces your monthly housing expenses even more.

You'll unfortunately have to sift through the listings that might specify "female only," and if you have pet allergies, that will obviously complicate your search further. It's worth the looking around though, as opposed to stressing out trying to pay for a place all on your own income.

No, there isn't anything. You can get a job (you should anyways) and find a roommate to share costs with. People also rent rooms out of their homes that you can get for cheaper.
