which should i save up for?
my very first chameleon, or my very own guinea pig.
first, I know this is long, but please help me out. also, thank you for taking the time to read and answer!
my last guinea pig died a few years ago, at the age of 5 and a half. he had diabetes.
the thing is, when my rabbit had to be put down a couple of years later, it was incredibly tough on everyone. so, my mom said no more small pets, like that. that has always included guinea pigs. now, we got a family guinea pig. and my step dad said I might be able to save up for my own piggy for my room. I know its a better idea to save for a pig, first, because they are far less expensive. and because I know lots about them, and it would be something I am familiar with, so it would be a good pet to start me up after a few years of just fish and dogs.
the thing is, they both have more pros and cons than just cost and getting started. for one, I am a little bit allergic to guinea pigs. I get a stuffy nose, and this morning I had a bit of trouble breathing. and the slightest smell was just too much. it didn't last long, at all, but still. the stuffy nose doesn't usually go away, until after a shower, and not petting or holding them. but that's no fun. why have a piggy if you wont be holding or petting it?!
I really think I should save for a pig first, but I am torn, because I don't think my friends would think I am very smart to live with a stuffy nose. and at the same time, chameleons require so much more care than i am quite used to having to provide. i mean, i am all for something new and for giving it your best and hard work, and all that. but at the same time, i have almost always had help. and i never had to pay for heat lamps, food, climbing branches, etc. i will obviously have more help with the chameleon, than i have for other pets. but i have NEVER had to pay!
i know by saying this stuff i am putting myself in a position vulnerable to many insults and comments saying i am not good enough for all this, but i take those risks every day. i just seem to get so much more hate and insults on yahoo than ANYWHERE else! its a little, well, a lot, stupid. i don't want all the rude comments and insults. i want help! i am so torn!
i get a piggy, and i practically live with a stuffy nose. i get a chameleon, i never have money for presents, art supplies, notebooks, or anything. i get a piggy, it lives longer, because i have tons of experience with pigs. i get a chameleon, i am likely going to mess up a ton. and when i say this, i don't want hate. i don't want insults. because you know what? i am not perfect. neither are you. we both make mistakes every single day, but what it comes down to is what we learn, and if we learn, from those mistakes. and i know i will make mistakes, but i also know i will learn!
so basically, i need help deciding.
i save for a pig, i get it much more quickly than a chameleon. i get a chameleon, i have to save up way more money each year just for supplies, not to mention food, vets, etc, than i would the whole pigs life. and they live, on average, the same amount of time! about 5 years! well, from the research i have done on chams, and the kind i want. grr! i really need help deciding! please help me, and point out some more big, important pros and cons i should consider. thanks!
look, i appreciate all your advice on fish, but i have had fish my whole life. i can care for them with no help whatsoever, and i am getting my fish tank re set up again pretty soon (we moved, so we have not set it back up yet). i don't need any advice on fish. i mean, if i wanted advice on fish, i would have asked for it! no offense, but i am not stupid. and i realize guinea pigs are less expensive, by a lot! and i have had a few guinea pigs. i know they are easy. you guys, i am so thankful for the help, but you are kind of restating what i already stated. i could really use advice on what you think, not the basic facts that, the way you guys are telling me, makes me feel like you think i am moronic.

I think you should get the guinea pig- or some other type of small animal. I got a chameleon for my birthday last year, it cost about $500 for everything, and the store was having a sale. That should give you a price idea. Also, chameleons take a LOT of care. I ended up having to sell my chameleon because it was too much to take care of and other costs, such as insects, insect food, special humidifier water, and more. Sure it was fun at first, watching her change colors, but in the end she was aggressive and did not like me. I wish I had gotten a small animal, such as a ferret or rabbit or guinea pig, or at least a reptile that did not require as much care, like a leopard gecko (I was torn between the gecko and the chameleon, I probably would still have the gecko today) or a bearded dragon (we had one as a class pet, super easy to take care of). I don't want you to waste any money or regret your decision. If you want to have a change from guinea pigs, some rabbits and even rats make good pets. Or, perhaps, if you want something that will live a long time, you could get a parrot. I have never had a parrot (or bird), but people I know have and they seem very happy with their pets. The kind that talks costs more, but a simple lovebird would probably be just fine. So you can make the final decision, but I recommend not getting a chameleon until you are more experienced with lizard care. Hope this helped!

chameleons are mean, fish are easy but they die really fast, definitely definitely get a guinea pig because they are cheap and so much fun and easy to care for! My sister has had a guinea pig for such a long time and they live forever! Guinea pigs are so much more fun in hamsters because you cannot get a hamster wet but you can go swimming with a guinea pig I even put my sisters guinea pig in a swimming pool and I really like it you probably should get a 50 gallon tank for your guinea pig if you choose to get that and food is cheap the water is cheap the bedding for the guinea pig for cheap the toys for cheap it's all just very cheap and I recommend that you get one I really hope this helps and make sure to answer some of my questions thanks bye Haley

Guinea pigs take less care and cost less then chameleons. I wouldn't recommend a chameleon as a first lizard. Leopard geckos, Crested geckos, or Steppe runner lizards would be best. I'm gonna give you some links to websites with long care sheets for reptiles. Guessing by the long question these caresheets will be a breeze for you. :)

You should get a fish. They are easy to take care of. They sell for not much money.
