How many miles can you expect to get out of a used car?

So I'm thinking of buying a used car that I found its a 2005 Pontiac G6 but it has 103,500 mileages on it. Is that to many miles on a used car?

It's not the miles that are important, it's the actual condition of the car right now. Any car that has been driven hard and not maintained can be junk, even if it has low mileage. On the other hand, a car that has been taken care of with 150,000 can easily go another 150,000. But, the only way to know which is which is to have a professional mechanic inspect the car before you buy it.

For a 05, that is a average amount of miles, but any used car you look at around that year will have 90,000-120,000 miles. Don't listen to people who say it is a bad car because it is a Pontiac either. ANY car could last forever if you maintain it regularly.

  • That's actually a pretty good number of miles. As long as you maintain it and service it regularly (oil change every 3,000 miles and keep a check on the dash lights), it should last you many years. Remember, mileage is not nearly as important as condition.
