Lately it seems as if I spend over $600/month just on groceries, and that seems outrageous.

Try to not eat out and also buy store brand and get a store membership card
Since you live in California go to a Ralph's or a publix and buy store brand beans, rice and ground turkey that's one meal that should feel you all for roughly $9

Just the wife and me spend that much a month.
Since she smokes that brings it up to $800.
Try more spaghetti, tuna sand. and Ramon noodle
soup. yum yum.
