What are your thoughts on the name Elixabete and what is the pronunciation?
Elixabete is the Basque form of Elizabeth. The internet says it is pronounced ee-LEESH-ah-bet-UH. I think it should be pronounced ee- LICKS-ah-bet-UH because Elixa looks like Elixir.
What are your thoughts on the name and what would you say is the proper pronunciation.
Thanks!
I am not using this name for a story right now. I was thinking of adding it to my character naming blog. And I know different names have different pronunciations for different countries and by different people.
I would appreciate if commenter's were a little less harsh and condescending toward me.

I wrote the Basque pronunciation down wrong a few days ago and was unable to get back on until now. It ends in EH not UH. It reads on the internet as ee-LEESH-ah-bet-EH and I pronounce it wrongly as ee-LICKS-ah-bet-EH.

The name is pretty. I think it would go either way, because both sound right. Whichever you like better is probably the best. I know some really interesting names that can be pronounced two ways, and nobody ever really questions it. :)

I am personally not familiar with the Basque language, but keep in mind that X doesn't make the same sound in every language. Look at the French word faux (pronounced foh) or the Spanish pronunciation of Mexico (me-HE- co) The pronunciation ee-LEESH-ah-bet-UH makes sense, replacing the "za" sound for the similar "sh" in the same way that the Russian version of the name, Elizaveta swaps the "b" sound for the similar "v" sound. The hard "X" is too phonetically dissimilar to other forms of the name for it to be the likely pronunciation.

Not knowing Basque myself, I would likely pronunciate it 'ee-licks-ah-bet''. However, the proper pronunciation would be that of the language of origin.
It's...pretty, sure, but it sort of feels like you're trying too hard to be original. This is partially due to its obvious resemblance to Elizabeth, like when writers take a common word/name and change a few letters around to create a name. However, if your world maintained consistency around this name-scheme, I'd be fine with you using such a name.
