How do I become a pilot?

I'm 16 and about to enter the 11th grade but after high school i will go to community college for 2 years and then a 4 year university. After that what would I need to do? Like what are the steps to becoming a pilot? Requirements?

P.S I would like to become a cargo pilot like for FedEx or something

Thanks in advance

There is no difference in pilot training between flying passengers or cargo -

The license you obtain in training is valid for both -

Pilot jobs with major airlines such as FedEx or United are... HARD TO GET -

So, rather than saying "I will be pilot with FedEx" just say "any major airline" -

And consider yourself lucky if it is Alaska Airlines or Southwest -

By all means, consider Air Force ROTC in college if you are excellent student -

Ex Air Force or Navy pilots are always preferred by major airlines -

If you do your training as civilian, it will cost you a fortune -

And you will have to suffer misery salaries for at least 10 years -

No major airline will consider you out of a flight school with 300 hours...

    Good luck -

    after college, two choices:

    1) military, if you can qualify (very few people can)

    2) civilian flight school, if you can afford it (a lot of people can't)

    3) If you want to fly for FedEx, or any other large passenger or cargo airline, after getting your college degree and finishing flight training, plan on working about 8-10 years as a pilot in smaller aircraft first. Or, if you can get into the military as a fixed-wing pilot, after your 10-12 year enlistment is up, you'd be a shoe-in candidate.

Civil aviation pilots: you may take an examination to join in the College of Civil Aviation and accept the training

Military air pilots: pass a strict examination

    For FedEx:

    Current requirements:

Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi-engine and Instrument rating (without limitations)

    Current ATP Certificate or written

Current FE Turbojet Rating or written (FEX or Basic/turbojet)

Must pass FAA mandated drug screen

Recency and type of experience is considered

Meet requirements for and currently hold First Class Medical certification

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university

Eligibility for rapid visa issuance, issued by offices in the United States to fly to any FedEx destination.

Ability to obtain clearance from United States Postal Service for handling or access to U.S. mail, which includes FBI fingerprint check, and candidate must have resided in the United States for the last five consecutive years (except for U.S. military assignments)

Eligibility for issuance of US Security Clearance

1500 hours total fixed-wing time as pilot-in command (PIC) or first officer (SIC) including a minimum 1000 hours PIC in fixed-wing jet, fixed wing multi-engine turbo-prop, or multi-engine recip over 20,000 LBGW or combination thereof.

Note: PIC for this purpose is defined as Captain/Aircraft Commander of record, not simply the sole manipulator of the controls.

Note: FedEx considers only pilot time in fixed wing aircraft toward minimum qualifications. This does not include simulator, helicopter, flight engineer, bombardier, navigator, RIO, EWO, WSO, NFO, or Special Crew.
