oil light stays on 2002 civic?
, the engine has good oil pressure and the sending unit works fine yet the light stays on. What could cause it. I did a test with a 12 volt bulb from the sender to the battery and the light goes out as soon as it starts yet the light in the dash stays on no matter what.

Do not know about your Civic, but I had a car do this once and eventually found that the wire to the warning light was always 'hot' and that the light would come on when the wire between it and the sender was grounded. When there was no oil pressure the sender would ground itself and thus turn the light on. The problem came when the wire shorted out and grounded itself before it got to the sender.
So try replacing the wire from the warning light to the sender.

jimanddot is right - it sure sounds like a short on the sensor wire. If the light is still on when the wire is removed from the sensor it is time to start looking in the car wiring. The wire does not go to the light but to the [whatever Honda calls their body control module... I forget]. It is also possible that module is insane.
