I pay £80 a month rent, £20 every 6 weeks for trimming, but if you were shoeing add at least £60 to that. My feed bill is not that high, i feed allen and page calm and condition £20 with a balancer £22, this sounds allot but that lasts me 2 nearly 3 months in the summer, less in the winter. Then i spend £25 a month on bedding, plus £8 a week on hay.

I generally have to buy new rugs every year, as they get ripped so i spend about £300 a year on rugs.

Lotions and potions such as fly repellent and things i spend about £5 a week if i was to break it down. I spent about £200 on a first aid kit, and i am glad i did as i have used bits in there and needed them on a few occasions, in that i have scissors, purple spray, bandages and dressigs and things, very very handy bit of kit.

My grooming kit cost about £50 for the basics, and i have added to that over time

    Then i have vaccinations £30

Wormer's over a year is probably about £100 a year maybe a bit less of more.

    I have the dentist out every 6 months that's £40 a visit

My insurance only covers 3rd party and that is £12 a month

Sorry its all a bit jumbled because other costs were suddenly coming to mind, its made me realise its no wonder i am always skint. Also mine stay out as much as possible so that's why my bedding an hay costs are quite low. Another thing to point out is i am DIY i live about a 5 min drive from the yard and it takes me a hour in the morning and a hour in the evening, that's if i don't ride.

In all honesty it depends where you live! Here in america, board is determined by what state you live in and what part of that state. The better the quality care the barn provides, and the better the facility is, the more expensive it is. Average barns here in pennsylvania range at the cheapest $200 to even up to $750 for full care. Most of them in my area are about $350 though. Feed all depends on what quality of food you want to feed your horse. It's roughly $20 per 50lb bag here. Vet bills here you can always assume to be at LEAST $100... the farm call itself is $50 on a weekday, $75 after hours and on weekends. My coggins is $31 and shots are I believe $57? something like that. You always have to have extra money set aside because when you think everything is under control your horse will find a way to get hurt or sick lol. Farrier bills for me here are $30 a trim $90 for shoes.

    Hope this helps!

I asked my grandmother this same thing when I wanted a horse of my own she said it costs about $500 a week roughly $2,000 a month not including the farrier/vet bills. Your farrier bills may be lower though if you get a mustang due to their extra tough hooves that do not need to be shod unless ridden in concrete which is bad for any horse regardless. If you plan to show your horse in any way though shoes will likely be nessecary. If you groom yourself or have a friend groom for you when you can't it will not add any cost however if someone is hired to groom the horse it can add up to $100 more a month depending on how often the horse is groomed. The tack can cost nearly as much as the horse itself. Hope this helped

If you wanted to keep the horse for at least a year anywhere between 3209 pound and 6419 pound? the more money you have saved up the better though.
