Should an X relationship remain a friendship?

A little survey here to find out what the social opinion is out there. A YES or NO answer is fine followed by a very short reason. Do remember to consider both positive, if any, as well as negative consequences, all so if any.

Update:

seems people are more for than not, I would urge people to consider the future new relationship. How would you feel if your new love had a close X friend. Whom you had to contend with texting on smart phones, calling, and often meeting. Lets not forget the inevitable, see me to my car portion of the visit. Are you all really sure you humans are okay with that ?

It's not a yes or no question. It depends on the people and the relationship and about a million other answers. And hard YES or NO is close-minded.

Hell, my high school ex officiated my wedding, he's one of my best friends. I have an ex I dated for 4 years from age 20-24 and I haven't spoken to him in almost a decade. It just depends.

    EDIT:

My husband's ex was his best (wo)man at our wedding - because I suggested it. If you can't handle your significant other being friends with an ex, then you have no business being in a relationship until you learn to control your immature insecurity.

If both are cool with it i dont c y not. But from my experience its never a good idea. One person is going to eventually want more one day and someones gonna get rejected when that time comes. So id say NO

I broke up and we were still great friends its only breaking up theres no reason to not be mates but if they have done some thing bad then i guess you cant trust them or forgive them for what they have done.
