I have a small hole in a leather jacket. Can I use black caulk to repair it?

I was just reading about leather repair, and one answer recommended leather repair kits that have a sort or "rubber-cement" that stays flexible. Then I remember they sell black caulk. The hole is just the size of a lentil, and it's on the front of a shoulder, you can see the white lining under it, so I do need to fix it. I'm thinking I'll put a dot of black silicone caulk, scrape it flat, then press it with a piece of scrap leather. I actually think this will work (and it doesn't have to be so perfect for me. I don't wear it that often anyway.) What do you think?

The idea is good but I am not sure how the caulk or trv is going to react to the heat. They make auto upholstery repair kits which do what you want. I don't know what the material they supply is.

You could also darken the white with a black ballpoint pen and call it a day.
