Is suicide an automatic damnation to hell?
Hello. Before I begin, I must inquire that no, I am not suicidal, nor am I depressed or ever plan on killing myself. This has nothing to do with me, or anyone in particular really. This is a general question. I have grown up as a Baptist, and I am not what you would call a regular church goer, although I do go often and I do love The Lord and try his best to follow his word. But there is quite a few things in biblical text that I am not quite certain of. One of these things being suicide leading to damnation. Take Norman Morrison for example: He was a religious man, and was against violence and harm against others. He lived during the height of the war in Vietnam. Mr. Morrison had become saddened by the bombings on innocent people in Vietnam. So one day he went to the Pentagon, below the office of Robert Nacnamara the Secretary of Defense, and lit himself on fire, killing himself. He did this to show people that something had to be done about innocent children and parents being burned alive by explosions in this country. He knew that this was the only way to stop the violence and grab the military's attention! He became known as a hero to the people of Vietnam and many of the people of the US. Ever Nacnamara claims this opened his eyes. I think if someone kills themselves like this, to help people, they will make it to heaven. I would like to believe this anyway. There are many other instances. Like let's say someone is stranded on Mount Everest with nothing but a pistol and a bullet. They know they are gonna die and try would rather end it quickly then wait and suffer.
I am not for suicide nor am I saying it is okay, I am merely asking, does suicide, no matter what the reason, always send you to hell.
I respect all views and religions Etc and I am aware I will be mocked by many for being Christian, and mock me if you must. I'm not afraid to love God

some christian faiths say you either go to heaven or hell, black and white yes and no. We live in a world in which we know by experience that this is not a reality. A judge will look at a case and take in all the factors in before a decision is made. Some will be sentenced harshly, others will get a lesser sentence. Jesus came to make earth more like heaven. We can only assume that in general our western society morals under christianity reflects the ideals of above. I doubt all will get the harsh sentence but all will get punished from not obeying the law.

I personally find this a difficult question to answer. This is because I believe al suicide is sinful but I also believe that God is merciful. Having written this I must confess that I do not know about automatic damnation to hell .

FIRSTLY , there is no fiery "hellfire" and ONLY Jehovah God & Christ Jesus make the judgment of such an ugly situation. Please note:
(John 5:28, 29)
“28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.”
The idea of those who have not been judged at Armageddon yet still in wickedness can make the best & sincere effort at the earthly resurrection in the paradise to be!

The problem is Norman Morrison did this for his glory not for the Glory of Jesus Christ. No True Christian will ever kill himself for Political reasons. A True Christian will die for Jesus Christ but he will never kill himself for any reason.
Therefore Norman Morrison more than likely was not a True Born Again Christian. Since he was not a True Christian, he died in his sins and will end up in Hell.

Believe it or not, we did choose to incarnate on this earth to progress spiritually. If we are unable to overcome our tests and trials and kill ourselves to avoid them, then we will have to reincarnate, could take a while, and learn those tests all over again and I must say out time in the spirit world will not be fun, we will be reliving our suicide over and over again.

I've always thought that (if God exists) then he'd have a little slack for certain cases. What about people who aren't religious/too young? It just doesn't seem fair.

Suicide was not a sin originally. The church had to make it a sin to stop followers from hastening their meeting with their gods.
A little research goes a long way.

It's AUTOMATIC DETENTION.
God doesn't take this **** lightly. He runs a tight ship, mister, and you had better shape up with your Touchy Feely crap. THAT is what got Jesus in trouble.

no, when a Christian dies absent from the body (dead) present with the lord no mater how they died.
