What are the new Judo rules?
I haven't stayed active in judo even though I have a lifetime membership. What are these new rules?
Any videos of what was removed?
If I remember corretly back in the 80's we couldn't grab a leg to take someone down then either. There were some leg/knee scissors take downs that were banned back then as some people were intentionally injuring other and not really going for the throw but for injury. I noticed this when certain people couldn't get a win they would do that. We all knew it was coming if we had seen them compete before. If they were winning they wouldn't do it. The sad thing to me one of these guys is still around and now has a Master's Rank. That guy was nidan back them and was beaten by a green belt from my dojo. Out judoka later went to train with the Olympic team. They gave him a full scholarship so that he could train full time in Colorado at the headquarters.
Video of what was removed please if possible?
Thanks to all that answered. I'm surprised at kata garuma being banned. I didn't see it done much in competition other than from the knees like in the video. When taught we did it standing. Also the throw that followed kata garuma. Looked like osoto maki komi. There was no leg grabbing in that throw. I loved that throw. I forgot about grabbing the leg when I used to do a combination of kouchi gari then when the lift the leg to step off you grab it and got for ouchi gari. I didn't see it in the video, but I used to use it.

Basically the new rules ban grabbing the leg under any circumstances. So no hand-assisted Ouchi-Gari, no more Kata Guruma at all, etc.

I've heard it jokingly called "Greco Judo" (Greco-Roman wrestling doesn't allow leg grabs) or "first base judo". Basically, the story goes that the IJF got tired of wrestlers and Sambists messing up their beautiful looking judo by going for leg attacks. There's an alternative view that some guys were just spamming leg attacks, going to turtle when they failed and used that strategy to not get thrown.

For videos you can check for each change that is saying....
In general, the Japanese changed the rules as it seems...to be able to continue thriving in Judo, since other countries (Russia, France) were taking the lead recently...( e.g 2012 Olympics)
It seems that they wanted to take out the foreign game, in order to be able to stay in the lead..
Here is an article on it...

There was a change in 2010, now in 2013 and perhaps again in 2016.

Basically they took out grabbing the legs. This eliminates American and Russian wrestler cross overs.
The idea in pretty much any competition throughout the years is "If something new comes along and you can't beat it, ban it!" Look at formula 1 history.
Innovation in competition has always been frowned upon... especially in martial arts

since the japanese who created judo didnt do well in the olympics, they probably convinced the IOC to change the rules to favor them more so they have a highers chance at winning
i think
