How to tell if a snail is dead?

I bought a snail today from petsmart and I put it in my 5.5 gallon tank with three guppies, it hasn't come out of its shell or moved around at all. I picked it up and smelt it like a read online and it didn't smell bad. I can't tell if its dead or not and its just sitting there for hours.

Usually a dead snail's "door" will hang open and won't be retracted when touched. The "door" is the hard thing that covers the opening of the shell when the snail is in its shell.

make sure to post another question if it jumps up and starts dancing, otherwise it's a snail and they spend a lot of time just sitting there.
