Songs about many loved ones coming and going and coping with it (preferably country)?
A friend who trains horses gets attached to them and finds it hard to let go but she asked me if I know any songs about loved ones coming into your life and then leaving and you coping with it and learning/getting stronger from it. She prefers country but any genre is fine.
Thanks!

2 AnswersCountry7 years agoSong lyrics (stuck in my head!)?
Something like,
We could hit the boulevard
but we do that all the time
and then later it's something like,
heeeaay heeaay
It might either be country or popish type of music (think train - drive by)
Any ideas?
2 AnswersLyrics7 years agoReiners - fencing question?
I’ve been trying to start some fencing with a reiner I’m training, but I’ve run into an issue.
I started by walking him to the fence, then trotting, then loping, to build his confidence. However, when I trot or lope him up to the fence, he tries to duck off to the side when we’re about 6 feet away. Even the slightest rein pressure on his neck sends him veering off, I think because he feels that it gives him permission to do so.
How should I go about fixing this without overwhelming him or getting anyone hurt?
Thanks!
1 AnswerHorses7 years agoWhy do some folks use such huge bits on TWHs?
I've seen utterly ridiculous bits on TWHs, with 8 or even 10 inch shanks. Is there an actual reason for this, like supporting their mouth or for looks or something? I've never once had to use anything remotely like that on any TWH, so I'm wondering. Thanks!
4 AnswersHorses7 years agoAny ideas on talking to horse owner about possibility of horse's career taking a different course?
I've been training a horse for 4-5 months, and in that time, he has progressed with leaps and bounds in reining. I was prepared to take him to a green reiner show and asked his owner about it, and she responded by telling me that he would not be shown. As a trainer, obviously I can't tell her what to do and what not to do with her horse, so I accepted that.
But she followed up with a comment that slightly concerned me for the horse's mental state. She told me that he is nothing but a trail horse.
I've spoken to fellow trainers and friends at the barn about this, and they all say that this horse is so full of life as a performance horse, running patterns and doing arena work, but that he seems so stressed, bored, and uncomfortable out on the trails and that should be taken into account. I completely agree with this, knowing from experiencing that when a horse excels at one thing and fails miserably at another, it's better to focus on improving their strengths rather than trying to make them something they're not.
How can I go about talking to her about this? I'd hate to see this horse's talent go to waste and watch him hate what he has to do, but unfortunately I know I can't make up her mind for her.
Thanks for your help!
6 AnswersHorses7 years agoSpeaking to horse owner about bit?
I've been training a horse for about four months. This horse had been ridden in a curb bit for the past few years and had become so disrespectful and dangerous while being ridden that the owners no longer rode him. At that point I was asked to work with him, and I now have him willingly loping/galloping circles, sliding 5-7 feet, etc. bareback in a rope halter and split reins.
However, his owner wants him switched back to the curb bit, which seemed to do far more harm than good. I believe that you should ride your horse in the lightest bit that he works willingly and responsively off of, and the large curb bit was overwhelming him and possibly even hurting him.
I spoke to her once, and she told me she disagreed with my idea. However, she has not seen me ride him so well in the rope halter because she rarely comes to the barn (once every 2 months, generally).
How can I talk to her about this? I'd like to show her what he can do when he's not over-bitted.
Any suggestions on how to bring it up, and avoid offending her in the process? Thanks!
7 AnswersHorses7 years agoSkid boot problem...?
My horse is sliding enough that I prefer to put skids on him to protect him from getting burned, but I rode him with them for about 30 minutes mainly at the lope and ran into a problem. When I got off to give him a quick break, he had open, slightly bleeding sores on the backs of his fetlocks. I certainly don't want him to be in pain from the skids rubbing that hard, but I also don't want him to get himself burned. Any ideas, maybe some wrap or something I can put on under the skids? Not too expensive please! Thanks!
1 AnswerHorses7 years agoNRHA/DRHA breed rules?
I know QH's are most common and would do the best, but are other breeds allowed to show? A TWH, for instance? I know he'd have more of an advantage in a show meant for his breed, but would NRHA/DRHA allow a TWH to show in classes with QH's?
2 AnswersHorses7 years agoflying lead change issue?
My horse will do beautiful changes, but only in the center going from a circle at one end of the arena to a circle on the other. He can't figure out for the life of him how to change on a straight line, any tips on teaching a true change? I suspect he's only changing because of the direction change, and I don't want him to start to anticipate a change.
Thanks!

What are the videos called, where you write things on signs to make a story or confession, and hold them up one by one? Like this:
1 AnswerYouTube7 years agoWarm hooves but no lameness?
Been going on for a week. I've worked the horse twice, for about 15 minutes each time, a few days apart. No lameness at all, no noticeable pulse either. I've consulted a few knowledgeable horse folks, and they basically told me I'm worrying too much. I'm a bit over-protective of this horse, however, so I'm somewhat concerned. Any ideas what this is, and what I can do about it?
Thanks

What do you pay for a trim and just the back sliders? Not front shod. My farrier charges $40 for a trim, what would you consider reasonable for a trim and sliders?
Thanks!
2 AnswersHorses7 years agoParents won't let me express myself (reasonable question)?
I'm 14.
I live in a rural southern area, most people around here wear boots and jeans. Except my parents, since they are from the city. Nothing wrong with that, I don't have a problem with it, that's just what they choose to wear. But all my friends are country/western type people I guess you could say. Boots, jeans, etc. to everything. Church boots and nice jeans to church. I try to wear my church boots and nice jeans to church, and wear a ponytail, and my parents always criticize me about it. They said I look stupid, like a boy, like a pinhead (whatever the heck that is), and other things like that. They're always trying to get me to wear weird stuff, like dress pants and "ballet flats" to church when every other person there is wearing boots and jeans. When they force me to wear the things I don't want to wear (since I can't go anywhere without their specific approval of everything), I always get weird looks and I'm so uncomfortable. I'm a confident person, but the weird things they make me wear make me feel embarrassed and my friends think I look strange. I have to explain it to them all the time because I want them to understand it is not my choice. I feel that I dress respectfully for church, I would never wear something inappropriate. I think it's the heart and attitude that's important, not what you're wearing.
Am I being unreasonable in how I feel? Any tips on working with them, or thoughts on the matter?
Thanks!!

4 AnswersAdolescent7 years agoReiners - how much do you pay for sliders?
My horse is sliding about 5-7 feet consistently, so I'd like to get him shod with sliding plates. First of all, do you think that's far enough for me to make the investment of sliders? And how much do you usually pay for sliders? I've heard everything from $40 to $200!
1 AnswerHorses7 years agoGyspy vanner costume ideas for paint horse?
He's black and white paint and everyone at the barn thinks he looks just like a gypsy vanner without the feathering on the legs. He's even got the long fluffy mane going on! What things should I do for a gypsy vanner costume, and how can I get the feathering on the legs to look good, what should I use? It doesn't have to be particularly strong, since it'll just be pictures and not like a costume show type of thing.
Thanks!
1 AnswerHorses8 years agoWould you consider this an apology?
"I wanted to apologize for ______________. It was disrespectful and rude, and it will not happen again."
Just an example. Would you consider that an apology? Or do you need a specific format/words?
