    What Is Sleep Paralysis?

Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions, you may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Some people may also feel pressure or a sense of choking. Sleep paralysis may accompany other sleep disorders such as narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is an overpowering need to sleep caused by a problem with the brain's ability to regulate sleep.

When Does Sleep Paralysis Usually Occur?

Sleep paralysis usually occurs at one of two times. If it occurs while you are falling asleep, it's called hypnagogic or predormital sleep paralysis. If it happens as you are waking up, it's called hypnopompic or postdormital sleep paralysis.

What Happens With Hypnagogic Sleep Paralysis?

As you fall asleep, your body slowly relaxes. Usually you become less aware, so you do not notice the change. However, if you remain or become aware while falling asleep, you may notice that you cannot move or speak.

    Who Develops Sleep Paralysis?

Up to as many as four out of every 10 people may have sleep paralysis. This common condition is often first noticed in the teen years. But men and women of any age can have it. Sleep paralysis may run in families. Other factors that may be linked to sleep paralysis include:

    Lack of sleep

    Sleep schedule that changes

Mental conditions such as stress or bipolar disorder

    Sleeping on the back

Other sleep problems such as narcolepsy or nighttime leg cramps

    Use of certain medications

    Substance abuse

    How Is Sleep Paralysis Treated?

Most people need no treatment for sleep paralysis. Treating any underlying conditions such as narcolepsy may help if you are anxious or unable to sleep well. These treatments may include the following:

Improving sleep habits -- such as making sure you get six to eight hours of sleep each night

Using antidepressant medication if it is prescribed to help regulate sleep cycles

Treating any mental health problems that may contribute to sleep paralysis

Treating any other sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy or leg cramps

Don't be afraid of sleep paralysis. It is really cool, and most people never get to experience it.

All that is going on is that you are in a sleep state, but still conscious. You may open your eyes, but you will not be able to move because you are still in the sleep state. (It's as if your conscious and subconscious are running simultaneously.) Your body produces glycine and GABA when you sleep and this keeps your muscles from moving while you sleep. Otherwise you'd be kicking and thrashing about when you dream. Not cool.

So what should you do next time you find yourself in sleep paralysis and you feel scared? Try scrunching your face hard 3-4 times and that should wake your body up. Or, try wiggling your toes until your body wakes up. Also most sleep paralysis occurs when you sleep in the supine position (sleeping on your back). This is the most common sleep position when you sleep on a couch. So avoid sleeping on your back to avoid sleep paralysis. Finally, you can use religion. If you read the Bible it says, "Draw near to God and the devil will flee from you." So just by reciting "Jesus. Jesus, Jesus" all dream monsters vanish.

Personally, I have had some really cool experiences when in sleep paralysis. You can hear your dreams. You can even see your dream occurring in your room (with your eyes open). In every case the sleep paralysis only lasted for a minute or two then it passes away. However when it does you can have some really cool hallucinations.

To be honest im not surprised that no one has mentioned this especially in this day that we live...

    Anyways, first things first,

DO NOT LET SCIENCE LIE TO YOU!

Sleep paralysis is a demonic attack -an evil spiritual attack- unbeknown to the physical eyes. From time to time these demons will search from people to inhabit; it gets complicated from this point on so I would recommend doing your own research.

Long story-short Jesus Christ would break you from the struggle. TRUST ME I HAVE HAD THE EXPERIENCES JUST SAY THE NAME JESUS CHRIST REPEATEDLY; the demons will run.

    God bless<3

Sleep paralysis is just when your brain is technically asleep and going through is sleep cycles but YOU are awake and fully aware of it. If you were dreaming it would have been called lucid dreaming.
