What can I name my character?
He's supposed to be handsome rugged, strong and tall. Just a man about town who can have his way with the ladies. Nothing too prissy though!!

I'd start by completely disregarding their personality, their appearance, their profession, and their talents, when choosing a name. What you should be paying attention to is their race, their ancestry, their language, and the diversity of where they come from.
Ancestry - Where their ancestors come from is pretty important when giving them the last name. It would be odd for them to have a Chinese last name if their family originates in England, know what I mean?
Language - This is important for his first name. In countries that don't speak English, you might notice that they give their children different names than you might be familiar with. Look at English names; John, Thomas, Jack, George, Martin, etc. Look at Italian names; Augusto, Leonardo, Maria, Claudia, etc. They are recognizable by their similar sounds. English names certainly have more variety, but other names might sound more exotic.
Diversity - If they live in North America, they might be so mixed that any name would be suitable. In China, because it is not very diverse, they would have pretty specific names that are recognizably Chinese. That is unless they are foreign.
Race - This also plays a large role. If the character is fully Caucasian, we can assume that they are from Northern parts of Europe, with obvious exceptions. If they are Mongoloid, then they are presumably from Asia (same with Arabs). Africans aren't always from Africa; many in North America are descendants of slaves. In the end, they still descend from Africa though. The list goes on, but you get the idea. So based on their race, we can trace it back to their country of origin and give them a name from that place.

I have a list of names that I have compiled by looking through baby name books and websites. Whenever I need a name for a character I look at it. If I find one on my list that I like, then I mark that I have used it. If I don't then I start searching the internet, I’ve found tons of names that I like by doing this.
If I were you, I'd search 'boys names meaning strength'.
