Is mileage more important than time for an oil change to be due?

When I get my oil changed, the sticker says that the next oil change is due after date X or after mileage Y. However, when the date rolls around, I always have 2000 or 3000 miles to go. In that case, is it all right to wait until the odometer gets closer to the suggested mileage?

There are additives in the oil that evaporate or break down over time. To maintain the proper qualities of the oil, time is just as important as mileage unless you are using pure synthetic.

Absolutely! Modern motor oil is so good today, mileage is more important than time.

Wish you had included the year make and model of your car. Every manufacturer has a slightly different view on mileage you may drive between oil changes. The owners manual in the glove compartment will advise you the oil viscosity and miles between oil changes. If the manual is missing, the dealer of your car's service counter will let you know how many miles you can go between oil changes.

I go by the mileage and what is looks like and smells like. If it still good and and smells right I would wait until it gets closer to the suggested mileage.

Oil loses it viscosity with use or time. Viscosity is basically its ability to keep to metal surfaces apart from each other. I personally only go by the mileage.
