Open carry is not legal in CA, you need a CCW for EACH firearm you conceal carry. Open carry is carrying a firearm in plain view (open) as opposed to concealed, NO open carry state has a permit to openly carry a weapon. How it works, you hang your Ak-47 over your shoulder by the one point strap or the sling, kiss the wife good bye and saunter off to your bus stop.

It is not legal to openly carry a firearm, or to carry a handgun in a vehicle unless it is in a locked box or the locked trunk, in public places within city limits in California. It is legal to openly carry an unloaded firearm outside city limits, and to carry a loaded firearm in places where shooting is permitted.

Open Carry in California is prohibited in all incorporated areas. It may be legal in some rural areas if it is unincorporated and has not been made illegal by the county.
