Potty training a puppy?
The pup is 4 months now, he has accidents in the house every so often but not much, at night he sleeps in the kitchen in a crate with papers down at the backdoor for him to use which he does. When will it be ok to take the papers away and how will I do this, he uses them every night aswell. Any help would be great!!!

YOU get up halfway through the night and let him out.
He is still very much a puppy and can't be expected to be fully reliable just yet!

I took my dogs crate from the kitchen to next to my bed when he was 4 months. I usually go to bed at 11, but would walk him almost every 2 hours during my waking hours at 3 months ..and not use papers or pads. When he turned 4 months, I would walk him after dinner at 630, again at 830, at 1030 and at 12. Crate him with no papers and door closed with a crate cover on. Maybe once or twice he might have whined at 3am and I would take him out...quickly and with no eye contact or baby talk..and return him to a covered crate till 6 am. Took maybe 10 days to be sure he would go through the night. Smaller dogs w smaller bladders might need more time. I think the crate cover makes a huge difference as there is little stimulation with it on.

If you’re thinking you want to start training your dog properly, but aren’t sure how, then you’re in the right place. Learn more https://tr.im/crAOY
The thing about proper dog training is that the more you know, the more you can use towards training your dog. If you have gotten a new dog or puppy, you should work on training them right away. If they are going to be indoor dogs, you can start crate training them . This prevents bathroom accidents or your items being chewed on. Start off with the right sized crate, so that they have enough room in the crate to move around a bit.
If you are trying to crate train your dog or puppy you must understand that you can not expect them to be able to hold their bladders for extremely long periods. You must provide times for them to go to the bathroom. They don’t want to go in their special place. So it is up to you to take care of them. If they have a accident don’t get mad at them, it wasn’t their fault it was yours.
When teaching your dog discipline, regardless of what training method you use, you should always apply it with speed and consistency. Not correcting your dog for bad behavior every single time, sends him mixed signals that may only make the problem worse. Likewise, not correcting your dog immediately, may make it hard for him to understand why you are punishing him.

Maybe you should start moving the papers outside, because I made the terrible mistake of using puppy pads which made house training A LOT harder. When he goes outside, give him a treat for going out there, then a few days after remove the newspaper and he will want to go where the newspaper used to be. Make sure you make your puppy go OUTSIDE, otherwise they will never learn that that's where they are supposed to be doing it! My puppy used to refuse to go potty outside and only liked doing it indoors wherever, so you might struggle a bit, but he will learn with consistence.
Hope this helps! :)

my pup is just about to turn 4 months too :) she still has some accidents but because its summer we have just been leaving the door open in the day for her to go outside all the time, she is slowly getting used to it. About 5am every morning ive been getting up with her and putting her in the garden. As soon as your up with your pup take him out :) after meal times take him out and if you catch him mid toliet take him out, its hard work i know! my puppy sleeps in my room and is free to roam but shes got in a sleeping pattern now so 5am is a good time to get her out so no accidents are in the house. Just try to get into a time rountine of going into a garden and waiting till the toliet is done, hope i make sense :)
