What get's tougher the more it breaks/once it heals?

I'm trying to think of more things like bones that are apparently stronger in the spot you break them after they heal. Or, like getting immune to a flu virus or something after getting it.

What other things have similar characteristics? But not all related to the body!

    Ones heart... with every let down or lie... it beats stronger & becomes more enveloped to pain.
