How long does it take antibiotics to work?
I have been taking antibiotics for a week. I thought I should be feeling better by now but I am still hurting. Should I wait a few more days to see what happens or go back to the doctor immediately?

Usually an improvement will be seen within 2 to 3 days. (With some diseases much longer however). A more likely scenario is that you got an antibiotic prescription for an infectious disease not caused by bacteria at all but by a virus (e.g. most coughs). In that case no improvment will be caused by the antibiotic at all, but it will get better by itself. About 50-80% of antibiotics prescribed in many countries are ineffective for this reason.

Sometimes they work quickly other times it takes a week or more. If you are concerned you can call and talk to the doctor office on whether you need to wait or to make a change now on what you are taking.
