    x^2 - 5 = 3x

    set equal to zero:

    x^2 - 3x - 5 = 0

    use the quadratic formula:

    x = [3 ± √29]/2

    x^2 - 5 = 3x

    x^2 -3x-5=0

    using the quadratic equation you get that x=-(√(29)-3)/2 or =(√(29)+3)/2
