The problem is that they think they know about scripture and God (believing He is not real or doesn't exist) and that gives them "credibility" in terms of answering. Of course, that's not true, but they are convinced that their erroneous understanding is valid.

Edit: I see many answers that are focused on so-called intellect and logic. No atheist answer mentions the thing that's missing: a spiritual connection to God that opens the door to understanding Him and His word.

  • By that logic, Christians can't be critical of any other faith's teachings.

Since most atheists (at least in America) today were raised in religious homes, it follows that they probably know quite a bit about the bible. From my own experiences, atheists tend to not only know the bible better than believers, but they also tend to know the history of christianity and abrahamic religions better than believers. They tend to know a little bit more about neighboring religions and religion in general. Atheists don't just wake up one day and exclaim, "I don't believe in God anymore!" Their atheism is usually the end result of a long process that starts out with them being unsatisfied with the answers they were getting for their questions.

    Nice try.

    EDIT:

Now, of course, there are atheists that are jerks who are just vehemently anti-religious. People like TheAmazingAtheist and that Madalyn O'Hair lady. I can't stand either one's positions, and I feel they do more harm than good. But every group has their bad apples, I suppose.

Actually many of us do know a lot about God. Many if not most of us grew up in some form of religion. We answer the questions that pertain to what led us away from religion, because it was our solution to the problem the ask-ers are facing.

  • There's a logical retort to your dubious assumption,

it's entirely possible that some people actually read the bible and they don't merely find contradictory confusion in most every written verse, but they can and do use the bible as evidence for their arguments against that invasive mind poison species known as religion.

Like most others that come here, they come to preach there brand of belief. What is sad is they do a better job than many Christians here. You get what you expect from most atheists where it is hard to find the love of Christ in many of the Christians.

I have a major clue about your bible god. It doesn't exist and the way this nonexistent critter is depicted in the bible is as lame as a screen door on a submarine.

I have not studied fairies, and I know they don't exist. I have read Crime and Punishment several times, and written essays about it, and I know it is fiction.

Being an expert in something does not make it fiction or non fiction. Nor does your not being an expert make it true or false.

The fact that there is no god is true, whether or not you have memorized the Bible.

I answer the questions addressed to "Atheists." Not those addressed to "Muslims" "Christians" etc.

Also: I've read the Bible (Old and New; Protestant, Catholic, Orthodox, and Ethiopic) multiple times. I've also studied the historical events during the times the Bible was written. I've also read the Jewish Pseudoepigraphia, Christian Apocrypha.

I suppose you have as well, right?

I can only speak for myself. Some questions about the Bible or God, I do have relevant knowledge, even if my starting point is one of disbelief. Other questions, that pertain to things I do not know, I do not answer.

From my experience on here, the atheists know a lot more about the bible then the theists do.

We also don't overgeneralize quite as much...

Why do Christians ask atheists questions and then wonder why atheists answer them?

From what I see, atheists tend to have a better understanding of what's actually in the Bible better than most believers.

Btw, still waiting on that evidence that the bible is true and accurate.
