I am an atheist, but the recent discoveries of dark material and dark energy throughout the universe is very mysterious to say the least.
It is possible we are living in more than one universe, with many more dimensions than we previously believed existed.
Dying is not at all terrifying, it is the same as being born, but just the other side of the coin.
The fear of dying is the very reason why religious beliefs came into existence, and these went on to explain other mysteries of life.
But now science is questioning all the answers which were given in the past.
I like the text of this "Talking Heads" song ......
Everyone is trying to get to the bar
The name of the bar, the bar is called Heaven
The band in Heaven, they play my favorite song
They play it once again, they play it all night long
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
There is a party, everyone is there
Everyone will leave at exactly the same time
It's hard to imagine that nothing at all
Could be so exciting, could be so much fun
Yeah, heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
Yeah, heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
And when this kiss is over, it will start again
Will not be any different, will be exactly the same
It's hard to imagine that nothing at all
Could be so exciting, could be this much fun
Yeah, heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens

Becca,
I would like to mention this; proof is truth revealed about evidence. Evidence is interpreted differently between individuals.
Here is some proof I have found that I think you might consider.
Order around us, prophecy in the Holy Bible (refers to physical things), and there are to this day people in a relationship with Him.
Being terrified of dying is ok. Fear can actually help us move to safety. Your fear can be reduced and possibly eliminated. When I went into my freshmen year of High School, I had fear. Before the end of the year, it was gone. Knowing more and experience eliminated my fear. Here is the good news, you can know more about God and in turn the fear of death can be relieved and maybe removed.
At some point one will end up in one of two places, Hell or Heaven. Heaven is being in God's presence as Adam and Eve experienced. Hell (sometimes referred to as a second death) is not in God's presence, described as a lake of fire.
Your assurance of Heaven will come from being in a right relationship with God, This is good because He wants a relationship with you. There is a problem at the moment (assuming you don't have this relationship) in the issue of sin. Sin is doing or having done something God has asked us not to and it may seem like a wall or boundary. Sin helps a relationship move to something unhealthy and the relationship may even seem nonexistent over time, and if it hasn't begun...how could it change?
Would you need to no more about the person you want to be closer too? Do you think He could relay things that are hindering the relationship? He does love you/us still. While we are in this sin He died for us! He has done everything to help us back to this relationship except violate the free will He has given (even the Angels have free will....some are now what we refer to as demons).
Could I tell you more about Jesus? If so, please contact me. eph_5_17_32@yahoo.com

I will have to answer a qualified yes to your question. The reason that I say that is that too many times in the past various people have claimed to have one standard, one definition of proof, as well as the similar concept of evidence, and then once they begin to engage in a dialogue with me start trying to change their definitions of both evidence and proof. I have found that far too many people from Atheists to Zoroastrians in reality define evidence as “Any fact, statement or opinion that supports what I already believe.” No matter how factual something is, no matter how rational, reasonable or well supported, many people refuse to accept it if it does not support what they already believe. If we can come to an agreement on what constitutes proof, and how we agree to define proof fits the standard of what is accepted as proof in a courtroom or in a laboratory, then I will be more than happy to provide you with proof. However, the question I answered just before I saw yours may give you some things to think about more immediately. Here is the link:

But beyond that, I’m going to offer an extremely simplistic statement. However, behind that simplistic statement is what constitutes a body of facts, both scientific and historical but not limited to those areas, that put together constitutes proof equal to that of just about any scientific theory.
Were there no God, the Baha’i Faith could not exist. The Baha’i Faith exists therefore it follows that there must be a God. If the Baha’i Faith teaches the truth, then everyone the world over from the followers of any and all religions to even including the Atheists are all equally loved by one and the same God and all have been inspired by that same God. Furthermore, if the Baha’i Faith is what it claims to be then world peace is beckoning from an ever-brightening horizon. If the Baha’i Faith is not what it claims to be, then there is no God, no true religion and no truth in any religion, and world peace will forever remain an empty hope and an idle pipedream. — B. Knott Wildered (Not my real name, but the quote is mine.)
What is your definition of heaven? What if your definition of heaven does not match reality? You asked for proof. I would submit that I have it. There is a reason I keep my email open. The next step is up to you.

No...there is no physical proof.
Theists will tell you that you need "faith"....but according to the bible, god showed up all the time in those days and they didn't need faith. He walked in the garden, had long chats with Abraham, gave dictation to Moses and boat building instructions to Noah, he started wars, impregnated a virgin, burned bushes, parted seas, murdered first borns to prove how powerful he was, and on and on and on.
The bible also says god is unchanging.
So ask yourself why he only ever showed up in that one book of stories...and nowhere else at any time in history, before or since?
That doesn't mean there isn't an afterlife...there may be. It's just if there is, we don't know it. So anyone who tells that they do...is lying.

Becca if your asking if there is good evidence, yes there is. But God is not gonna give you 100% proof as that would take away your faith and your free will. Almost all people are transformed after their near death experiences and many report seeing heaven.
The best proof of the afterlife are near death experiences, especially near death experiences.

The shroud of turin is one of the most scientifically studied object on earth, the evidence points towards it being the actual burial cloth of Jesus but its the image on the shroud is what is amazing.the image matches Jesus's passion and crucifixion perfectly, but most amazing part of it is the technology of the image itself.
It is encoded with 3d spatial information., xray information. the dorsal image shows no compression which means there was no gravity present during image formation, plus so many other advanced stuff on the shroud. This is why many not only believe that the shroud is the burial cloth of Christ but that the image was formed during his resurrection process.
here is a great shroud of turin blog packed with loads of info on it.

I am afraid not my dear, ...all that ANYBODY has is just BELIEF, and if you are a WOMAN, then it it really is a SAD STATE of AFFAIRS....the ONLY THING that a FUNERAL PARLOR can guarantee you is THE PLOT SOMEONE PAID FOR.....BEFORE OR AFTER...YOU DIED....No one has ever come back to challenge the ISSUE....Not even HOUDINI!!!!!!..............Im sorry, but it is a true fact.....When you GO DOWN....YOU are at the MERCY OF Insects that will reach you.....EVEN if TAKES THEM A HUNDRED YEARS....and IF you are STUPID enough to have FAITH in religion, that DOES NOTHING but TAKE YOUR MONEY, WITH ONLY AN IMPLIED SENSE OF HOPE TO HOPE FOR, IS TRULY A SAD STATE OF CONDITIONING............Paul G.

Being dead doesn't effect you. It only effects others who care for you.
It's a bit like being stupid.
Unfortunately, we can only avoid one of the two.
Cheers.

Have you ever stepped into a darkened stairwell and your foot goes instinctively to the first stair? That's called faith.. knowing something is there without actually seeing it. A Christian doesn't need any proof that Good exists. The people who need proof are the people who, deep down, are uncomfortable with their faith.
