What does apostolic succession mean to you?

It means that the current bishops of the true Christian Church are in a direct unbroken line of succession from the apostles, the first bishops appointed by Jesus Christ. And that the current Pope of the true Christian Church is in a direct unbroken line of succession from the first Pope appointed by Jesus Christ, to whom He promised, "I give to you the keys to My kingdom", and "Whatsoever you bind upon Earth is bound in heaven", and "He who hears you hears Me".

It is the means of ordination in the Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican/Episcopal Churches. Two or more Bishops are necessary to ordain a new Bishop through a ceremony of laying-on of hands. The Bishop can then ordain priests (or presbyters) and deacons. In this way, authority can be traced back to the original Apostles.

In the Bible, Paul and Barnabas received the laying-on of hands from the Apostles and later ordained Timothy and Titus as Bishops of different churches.

In Acts 1, Peter stated that one apostles was prophesied to be replaced (succeeded). This was Judas. Later, in Acts 12, when the Apostle James died, no successor was appointed.

Apostolic succession thus can only refer to the replacement of Judas Iscariot.

Unbiblical nonsense originally dreamed up to combat the gnostic heresies. Instead of refuting heresy with biblical truth, the catholics dreamed up apostolic succession and tradition, Tradition, and Sacred Tradition to counter gnostic heresy. The catholics' lack of faith led them to introduce these doctrines of demons into public consciousness.

After allowing their fear to prompt them to adopt these unbiblical doctrines, the catholics realized that these false doctrines provide a good framework for maintaining power over the foolish masses.

it means that jesus ordained 12, the 12 chose 2 or 3 others by lots, and then the original 3 in authority ordained others.

nothing but laying on of hands is true authority and every priest and elder in the LDS church keeps a record of the names of people they were ordained by, leading directly to James peter and john and ultimately to Jesus. of course i think the same thing happens with apostles and they are ordained by those that were ordained directly under the hands of James Peter and john. so technically, i think we have 3 lists. i must've dropped the ball somewhere, im not an apostle nor a prophet, but i do have the laying on of hands. but not the lists.

I believe that is a Catholic term and involves the Papal succession.

the church is still being protected by the holy spirit , it does not matter if the pope is a weak corrupt leader , what matters is the unchanging words of the lord referring to ;faith and morals;' so when the church teaches against abortion, homosexual marriages , porn etc. you better believe it.
