Am I legally allowed to cash out my vacation time?

I work for the corporate machine known as Wal-Mart. It's not the worst place to work. It's not the best. But it's a job. Anyways. I've been there for nearly a year now. And when that anniversary date finally hits, I automatically get a week of paid vacation time. However, I'd rather have the money at this time as my vehicles need work and I've got bills to pay. What a grand life... lol anyways. So, I was wondering if they were obligated legally to cash out my vacation time and pay me if I chose to do so? Upon researching this, all I can find are articles in regards to terminated employees. I'm not terminated, so that doesn't help me in the slightest. Thanks in advance!

No company is legally obligated to pay somebody vacation time if the vacation is unapproved. If you take time off without approval that's usually grounds for termination. The fact that you're on your way out is irrelevant.

To the best of my knowledge Walmart only does not cash out vacation/sick/personal time for active duty associates. I never knew of anyone who tried to do it that way, truth be told. As you likely know by now Walmart is more than a little bit stingy. Personally I doubt they would allow for associates to cash out their vacation time and keep on working.

The only time I'm 100% sure they do it is when employment is terminated.

    It's up to company policy.

I don't know but I would guess that it's not allowed at Walmart.

Additionally, you need to research the Walmart policy. Many retail companies require employees to take off 4-7 days in a row each year. I have never heard of Walmart having this policy but they may.
