Simple yes or no question about worth of the individual?

Would a soldier receiving a medal show worth of the individual or not?

If not what would?

Update:

what if you were being recognized for a charity?

A soldier who wins a medal probably deserves it, but he is also a victim of circumstance. I mean, even if you enlist in the military, you're very unlikely to be in a situation where you'd need to be super brave (or foolhardy).

A hero is not necessarily higher in worth. Our whole civilization is built on the idea that every human has worth, that all men are created equal, that all citizens have the same rights of citizenship, all humans have human rights, etc. (It's true we ignore this principle all the time, but we claim to believe in it. 8^) ).
