Do you think this is reasonable?

I am wanting a new phone for Christmas, and the phone is a Samsung Galaxy ||| and right now I have a really crappy phone. It's a little tiny touchscreen phone with a flip out key-board, and it doesn't even qualify as a smartphone. I've been wanting a smartphone for about 2 years now, and my phone now is 1 1/2 years old. The only problem is my dad does NOT want to pay for a data plan but the data plan is required with the Samsung galaxy.

I have unlimited texting and so many minutes for calling.

Do you think this would go over so well with my dad knowing that he doesn't want to spend a lot of money? He usually spends $300 dollars on me for christmas because I'm his only child.
