Living with a heavy smoker, Help?

I'm 20 years old male, It has been about a year and a half, since i moved in with my roommate. Lately I've been thinking about the effects of second hand smoke. I'm thinking of leaving him because i spend about 20 hrs a day at home. So i'm breathing in all the fumes from the residue left on the yellow stained walls all day. But if i leave i'll be homeless. What should i do? Is it safer out in the streets or to be living with a heavy smoker?

Update:

Do you think I have Lung cancer already if i stay home all day?

It's good to know that you are aware of 2nd hand smoke. There is also another risk of 3rd hand smoke. It's best to discuss this matter seriously with your room mate. If he finds it hard to quit smoking then you can meet half way- compromise.

You have to print out all the important stuff you can find online about 2nd and 3rd hand smoke. If there are pictures print them as well so that you can easily convince him about the repercussions of smoking. Also, inform him of the dangers you'll have to face if you start living on the streets.

You can designate a specific place where he can smoke. It's best if he can smoke outside the house or room. For the meantime, buy a face mask to strongly show how much you value your lungs. Most especially, your health.

Proper communication is the key here. Pray hard and good luck!

You don't have to move out, just sit him down and talk to him about it. Make sure he notices the walls are starting to go yellow and that there are a lot of disadvantages for him smoking in the house.

Maybe he could just smoke in one specific room, like the kitchen or in the garden whenever he has to, instead of smoking all over the house. I'm sure he wouldn't mind this, he probably just hasn't noticed how much of a negative affect it's having, and you need to point this out in a friendly way.
