Why don't people talk about money?

Me and my husband lately have noticed no one else talks about money the way we do. We'll tell our friends about this great deal we got on a used dining table or whatever. We'll tell our friends when my husband got a raise. Or when I finally found a job, but it only pays minimum wage. And we're not rich. We're the poorest in the group. We're not bragging to rub it in other peoples faces. Everyone else has houses and way more "toys" than us. But we don't care. Sure we're trying hard to get better jobs for the future, but in the mean time we're having fun. When our friends buy things and we ask how much, they'll hesitate. Or we'll find out a year later in passing that they got a raise at work.

Should we not be talking about that stuff either? Why not?

Update:

And I'm not saying we're nosey and HAVE to know about their business. I'm just wondering if we should stop sharing that info with others? Are we being rude or something?

Update 2:

Well it's true we don't have it! But I can't imagine it would change if we did have it. I sometimes thought maybe they were ashamed with how much they paid for something, but we always get things on sale, so it excites us. And I thought people would be proud and excited they got a raise. But I get your point. We'll try to stop talking about it with others. Thanks!

The only people you should be talking about money with is your husband, your banker and your investment account holders. Money is a personal thing and not such a great topic of conversation with your friends. Asking anyone how much they paid for something is really rude. You should have taken the clue when your friends hesitate to answer such questions.

No one really cares how much you pay for things nor do they want to tell others what they pay for their purchases. It is just none of any one's business. If you want to find out how much money something costs, use the internet to find out. Often people judge others on their spending or lack of spending habits.

Money, Sex and Politics are touchy subjects to discuss with others and should not be brought up in conversation because these are topics that are way too personal.

My father once told me that people who always talk about sex and or money, don't have either.

Some are scared where you would steal their job/deal if they spoke about a new job or a new deal. Even small things are considered like treasure and not to be told. Your so called friends are insecure and are incompetent.

Most people are reluctant to discuss money, it is considered a bit tacky and also personal information that no one else needs to have.
