Why was Henry Tudor (Henry VII) told by his mother that he would be king?

Why was Henry Tudor (Henry VII) told as a child that he would be king and that he was the Lancastrian heir? If the son of Henry VI had not died in battle then wouldn't he have become king and not Henry Tudor?

Probably wishful thinking at the time, assuming she actually said this. Margaret was ambitious for her only child.

Was he? What is your source?

Actually, Henry VI is said to have told the young Henry Tudor that he would one day be King of England. Seems unlikely though as the king did have a son, Edward, to succeed him.

Margaret had a hard life: her father may have committed suicide, she was married at 12, gave birth at 13, saw her side lost and her enemies rule her country. Hanging on to the belief that her son would be King of England was probably all she had. Poor woman.
