You know that process that you used to learn how to divide with in elementary school? You know how you are supposed to put the bigger number inside of the problem and the smaller one on the outside? Well, to convert fractions to decimals, you do the opposite. Put the larger number on the outside, and then put a decimal directly above the end of the whole number on the inside. Now, add a zero to the smaller number, and then solve it like a regular problem. For example:
_____
2 |1
_.____
2|1.0
_.5___
2|1.0
_.5___
2|1.0
10
-___
0
Apply sign changes: -.5

Do the division first and then put the negative in front. A negative divided by a positive will always equal a negative and so will a positive divided by a negative. A positive divided by a positive will stay positive and a negative divided by a negative becomes a positive.
