When we believe in something, we create...?

Our own reality of what it is we believe. We create illusions of our lives in our own minds, much like an anorexic that believes she is fat. What you know and believe in your head is the combined processes of your memories and experiences. your life is your own creation, it isn't real to someone else.

That being said, if a person believes that their deity is real, they create the reality in their own mind, that would affect their lives, their outlook on life, and all other thoughts they manifest in their reality to affect the realities of others.

Would this then mean that God is real? Even if you don't believe, someone else does, thus making God real, so God would have an effect on many people through the actions of those that believe.

Does this prove that God is real?

If not, do you believe that you should respect the beliefs of others?

Update:

@Doug O..... when you stop believing in it, somebody else still does, making it real for them. The ice cream isn't in the freezer until I see it in there, or if my wife tells me it's in there. It doesn't exist in my mind until I put it in there. My wife tells me there is ice cream, I don't believe her so it doesn't exist in my mind. Yet my wife believes it is in there, so it exists in her mind, therefore it is real.

@SupaStar.... most theists get their beliefs from a collection of books, or gospels. You get yours from books and websites..... Both were written by other people you don't know. Neither of your sources are credible as you are believing the reality created by someone else.

Update 2:

Great answers so far, I really value all of your opinions!

"Would this then mean that God is real?"

    Nope.

Yes, imagination can affect how you approach reality.

    But it can't change it.

And in the end, it wouldn't be any "god" that's having an effect on your life -- just yourself, based on your imagination.

"...do you believe that you should respect the beliefs of others?"

    No, I don't.

I "respect" their right to "believe" whatever they want. But if what they believe is patently ridiculous, and they go around in public proclaiming its "truth," it merits all the criticism and ridicule it gets. If they keep it to themselves as a personal "guide" to their own life, great. I won't criticize or ridicule. The thing is, very few people who "believe" in imaginary god-things do that.

I make sure the things I believe in are true - that is the difference between myself and a theist.

And, while I can respect the right of everyone to believe in whatever they want to, I don't have to respect their beliefs at all.

    Specifically, the really stupid ones.

    Of course not.

    Yes.

We create with our minds. My question about this is infants who have yet to formulate horrific scenarios are still subject to them. You wonder how subjective we are to the ruminations of others around us. Jesus said he could do no miracles in Nazareth because of their unbelief.

There is so much truth in the Bible and really that is the purpose of faith.

You believe you are healed and you are healed.

    You believe you are protected.

It seems that when people are fearful of things , these things are drawn to them.

I never saw a tornado but a friend had a fear of them and everywhere we traveled together , there were problems with tornadoes.

We saw a huge twister when there were no warnings.

These are not provable but there are many examples of this in my own life.

    Belief is powerful.

Hopefully , some open minded scientist will study the effects of belief.

Reality is what doesn't go away when you stop believing in it.
