    School research reading analyze graphs knowing the financials of the company. Does the stock pay dividends how much debt is outstanding and their credit rating all contribute to stock price. If something is at an all time high it is best to stay away. A good balance sheet on a lower price stock is the best I f you are in Canada BMO investorline has a lot of good research tools so does the globe and mail

    It is best to buy a basic investment book (dummies guide). Learn the basics of each segment (markets, analysis, portfolio management, bonds, equities, corporate actions, options etc.). Once you know the basics then study each segment in greater detail.

    As you learn about investments, every answer will prompt further questions!
