Pond UV light question?

Can a UV rope light be used in a pond?

My 25w UV pond filter has packed up & I was wondering if I could use a 25w UV rope light to replace it.

They do manufacture waterproof UV rope light, so the answer would be "Yes", if you got the right product. http://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?fsb=y&IndexAre...

    No!

The rope light is a UV-A light while the germicidal section of the UV spectrum is UV-C.

In other words the rope light will not kill the germs that you are trying to kill while the filter would.

    Sorry
