Can I still use my license for 10 days after it expires?

I am in a bit of a problem right now. My license expires 1 week from today but I am in another state and I am not leaving until a couple days after my birthday. I heard from someone that you can still use a license for 10 days after it expires. Is this true?

Update:

I already paid to have it renewed but it was sent to my home in California while I am here. I don't really know how I can have it sent here since I don't have any address or P.O. Box here

    No, you can't legally drive.

But here's the thing. You're not driving unlicenced, you're just driving without your licence with you. You have a valid licence, it's just not in your pocket at the moment. That's a pretty small ticket, and you might even get off with a warning if the cop is in a good mood.

No, once a license expires, you are driving with an expired license. Do not drive without a valid license. It could cause major problems.Call the motor vehicle department of your state and find out what you can do to renew your license.

In the UK it would be invalid so driving with an expired licence will get you a fine and points.
