Nope.
TV remotes use a small infrared emitter to signal the TV, whereas a garage door remote is an actual radio transmitter. They use completely different signals and the two will not talk to each other.
How the S4 provides the IR signal the TV uses is unknown to me. But it won't talk to your garage door opener in any case - the door receiver uses a completely different frequency from the transmitter in your phone.
Source(s): Handyman. Look at the front of your TV remote. See the little button pointing out the front, looks a bit like a small LED? That's because it is an LED. It just shines in a spectrum you can't see. If you want to see it in action, point it at a video camera and press some buttons. Most video cameras can see the IR spectrum TV remotes use, and will record it but play it back as a blink of light. Give it a try. - 8 years ago
