Finding a pilot job overseas?
When you get accepted for an interview by an American airline, but you live in Europe. Do you fly to the US and pay your travel, even if you won't get the job later or is the interview done over internet or something?
Share if you experienced this :)
(I know the question should be in business section, but i have a feeling that experienced pilots look around this section more)

If you are an experienced airline pilot, airlines might interview you - worldwide -
You will be invited for an interview, and will send you a round trip ticket -
They will also make arrangements for overnight in hotel -
The only thing you have to take care of is your meals and beverages -
Generally these interviews and pre-employment processes take 2 days -
Be sure to have all your documents with you - passport, licences, log book -
Interview itself (meeting a chief pilot, or assistant) -
Company medical examination -
A short aptitude test (example 20 questions about the type aircraft you fly) -
A simulator pilot aptitude assessment of 30-45 minutes -
You are generally notified immediately of being hired/not hired -
And given a few days/weeks to report for formal company training -
Again they will issue airline tickets and hotel accommodations -
Training can be short (2 weeks) or long (in Japan JAL/ANA/NCA = 7 months) -
For information of airlines actively hiring pilots -
USA air carriers do not hire foreign pilots
They require USA nationality or permanent resident visa (called "green card") -
They also require to hold a FAA pilot licence and type rating -
European air carriers do not hire foreign pilots who do not have EU nationality -
You also must hold a EASA (JAR) pilot licence and type rating -
Airlines in the Middle East accept pilots holding FAA or EASA licences -
As well as any ICAO licences with type rating -
Do not expect to be hired as pilot overseas with 250 hours total pilot flight time...!
Some small operators in Africa hire pilots with low time for air taxi operations -
Any ICAO pilot licence is acceptable for them -
