Is 'bi' a phase?

I'm 16 and for a few years now I've liked guys and girls. When someone asks me about my sexuality, I don't tell them I'm bisexual, because to me, people (especially girls) have turned it into a label. I just tell people I can appreciate a good looking guy or girl. Like right now, I'm interested in a guy and a girl, but my feelings toward the girl is stronger. What are your opinions on bisexuality? Is it a phase, trend, label, or is it here to stay?

As a bisexual let me explain this to you clearly; so you don't get a lot of rubbish on this topic. Being bisexual (Sexually Attracted to both genders) is just like being Heterosexual (Attracted to the Opposite-Gender) and Homosexual (Attracted to the Same-Gender) it isn't a light switch, we can't be attracted to one gender and then flick the switch to the other. Once we're attracted to a person; it's just like being Gay or Straight. We don't have any more chances of Cheating then anyone who isn't bisexual; we also don't have any more chance of having STDs then someone who isn't bisexual. Relationships are the same; whether Gay/Straight or Bisexual. So having a bisexual Boyfriend/Girlfriend isn't any different then having a straight Boyfriend/Girlfriend; Trust/love is still the main factor.

Bisexual: Someone who finds they can feel attraction to people of more than one gender, be that to both men and women, to people of all gender identities, or who doesn’t experience gender as a major factor in their attractions, period.

Questioning (or -curious or -flexible, like bicurious or heteroflexible): Someone who isn’t sure right now, or has never been, of what their sexual orientation is; who is in the process of figuring that out. Terms like bicurious or whatever-flexible usually are used by someone who feels an interest or curiosity about a given gender of people sexually, but is still in the process of questioning. A term like that is sometimes also used to describe an interest in people of a given gender that’s there, but not felt as so central to be part of someone’s overall orientation.

    There is a difference;

The thing is that a lot of people need to explore their sexuality before they know what it actually is. There is a sort of scale when it comes to being bisexual in that there are some people who are attracted to both sexes but wouldn't have sex with someone of the same sex as them, and there are people who are attracted to and want to date/have sex with people of both genders. There are also people in between.

If a lot of girls you know have been calling themself bisexual then they are probably experimenting with their sexuality to see what they like and don't like. It's not a phase, it's a natural thing to be curious about.

There are some straight women who will act sexually towards other women to get men's attention and this is wrong in that it trivializes people who are bisexual and have phased difficulties with it (coming out to their family, being harassed while on a date with someone of the same gender) and it perpetuates the fetishization of gay women.

In short, it's not really a trend or a phase, it's more that society is now more open to the idea of people being gay, bi, etc. and so people are more free to experiment and be curious about their sexuality. Most people grow up thinking they are straight because society assumes it's the sort of default sexuality (most people assume everyone is straight unless shown otherwise). It's not wrong to be curious or to try things out to see what you like or dislike, and it's not wrong for other girls to do it, too.

To say that bisexuality is a "phase" makes no sense. Sexual orientation is not about who you date or want to date. Sexual orientation is strictly physiological. That's not just science, that's the actual definition of the word. If you are physically attracted in a sexual way to both sexes, you're either bi or pan, by definition. Sorry, no offense intended; this is just kind of something that drives me a little bit nuts. It makes as much sense to say that being bi is just a phase as it does to say that being gay is just a phase.

  • No it's not a trend. You can't change what you're attracted too. What your body responds to emotionally or physically is all chemistry. I used to think it was a phase too when I was 14, I'm almost 20 now and still like girls an guys. There's nothing wrong with it though. All those people who are against it....they are just afraid of something they don't understand. These people are completely straight and its scary that some people could like the same sex. But there is nothing wrong with it:)

I am 14 and I have had same thing happen.

It is actually just hormone growth.

During the period of the hormones growth you will start wanting and thinking about unnatural sex.

I know a lot of doctors that know you are not born that way and that it is not logically or naturally possible.

    Its a growth phase.

Your birth does not control what gender you like.

    Trust me :)

    Hope this has helped

The only adult I know who claims to be "bisexual" is a fifty-something year old man I have never seen with a woman, nor with another male over seventeen.

    BI means 2 or double

    like BI-nary BI-sexual animals(hermaphroditic animals) BI-lobed BI-Lingual

so yes BI is a prefix for a word, not a word on its own.
