Pregnant or miscarriage - anyone had this?

I took a pregnancy test several weeks ago and it confirmed I was pregnant. According to the dates from the midwife the baby would be due mid April, making me approx. 10 weeks pregnant. I started to bleed on Monday and went to A&E as I was having cramps and the bleeding was more than just spotting. They completed a blood and urine test and looked at my cervix but could not confirm a miscarriage. I had a scan on Tuesday and was told that there is a sac but no foetus. The sonographer said that there is no evidence of bleeding around the sac so perhaps the pregnancy is earlier than thought and the foetus has yet to form. The doctor confirmed this possibility but also said I may have already lost the baby and could now be waiting to lose the sac. I have been re-booked for a further scan on Tuesday of next week to see if anything has changed. I am still bleeding and have some cramps. I am trying so hard to be hopeful, but I am completely confused. This is the worst waiting game. Has anyone ever had this or something similar? Could you share your stories with me - good or bad? With love and thanks to all.

It is very hard for anyone to know what is going on inside your womb, if you thought you were 10 weeks pregnant that means you missed 2 periods. Unless you bled in the intervening weeks then quite possibly you have miscarried now. Bloods tests should be definitive unless your hcg levels are rising then you are not pregnant & bleeding/cramping are not consistent with a viable pregnancy I'm afraid.

I miscarried at 17 weeks in my second pregnancy after a bout of severe food poisoning, I was very ill indeed. The foetus stopped growing at 13-14 weeks, I bled for 3 weeks but my GP didn't send me for a scan (this was 23 years ago). Finally I had a diagnosis at around 17 weeks gestation of a "missed miscarriage" where the foetus has died but doesn't come away naturally. I had to have an emergency operation (D&C) as well as 2 lots of antibiotics for the infection.

Whatever has happened it is for the best at this early stage I believe. so much can go wrong & you need for only the strongest embryos to survive realistically however hard it seems. Better to miscarry now that give birth to a baby with severe medical problems that might need 24 hour care it's whole life. Can you devote the next 50 years or more to caring for a baby with special needs? Things happen for a reason.

    It does not sound good.

When I miscarried I had a similar experience to what you're describing - bleeding and cramping and ultrasound could not find a fetus or heartbeat, my cervix was closed (which was a good sign), and bloodwork said that I was not as far along as I was supposed to be. I took another home pregnancy test and it still said positive so I clung to that hope. A few days later, still bleeding, my re-test for bloodwork showed a drop in the hormone levels to indicate miscarriage and a few days after that my early home pregnancy tests were coming up negative.

Sorry, that's my story...not a fun one. Good luck...this sucks.
