what course of action to get Ontario Police to return money to U.S. in Grandparent scam?

My dad was a victim of the Grandparent scam (http://money.cnn.com/2013/05/22/retirement/grandpa... but my sister tracked the money ($6,500.00 U.S,) to a hotel in Toronto. She contacted the Toronto Police who arrived in time to catch the scammer and collect the money. We would like to try and get my dad's money back from the Toronto Police. Does anyone know how?

The money may held until trail. Suggest you contact the Crown Prosecutors Office.

Uh, try asking the Toronto Police. They'll likely need to go through the whole criminal trial to prove the money was stolen and who it actually belongs to. Even if the scammers were caught with money, they could very well say they already spent the stuff from your dad and the money they had was from someone else. It's highly unlikely the Toronto Police are going to be sending you a check or something any time soon.

Perhaps, you might consider, in some small counter universe, calling the toronto police and asking them

If you get it back, you'll get it back after a trial is done and over with.
