Does China even have fighting kites?
I've been reading and the main ones mentioned are Indian, Japanese, and Brazilian. I know that Wikipedia says they're called volantins but after looking that up I got nothing, just Indian kites. This seems strange since Chinese invented kites, and would not practice kite flying, which would take extreme skill and discipline, something they looked for at that time.

Kite flying is extremely popular in China and enjoyed by all ages, at least in our town. Kites can be quite elaborate in size, design and construction. Kites are often flown at night as well, decorated with an assortment of lights. We live close to two large parks and several large open areas... you can see a number of kites in the sky everyday, all day and well in to the evening.
Your question drew my curiousity and I looked it up on Wikipedia as well... and China isn't mentioned at all with kite-fighting. That is interesting.

Kite flying is a popular sport in China. If you go to city like Weifang, you'll find many shops selling kites, and people fly kites on the squares and other open grounds.
