Is my dog sick?? 8 yrs old. bichon. Sleeping a lot, not walking since yesterday?

I have an 8-year-old Bichon Frise mutt. We've had her for 5 years & she's never acted like this. Since the day before yesterday she just lay around. Just seemed like she was really sleepy. Now today she is worse--won't walk around, have to carry her outside to see if she needed to pee. She didn't want to eat her favorite food, or anything! Finally got her to drank, but now she's lying down again. Help??

Was she recently vaccinated? My bichon got like this last month after getting her shots and her vet had no idea what was wrong with her but she almost died. I suggest you take your pup to a vet asap!

Take her to the vet ASAP! I work at a veterinary clinic and when a dog comes in in that kind of state its always VERY serious. Leaving it 2 days is far too long without veterinary attention and especially if she's old chances are she's really really not well. Imagine if your child wouldn't get up, eat, drink or go to the toilet on their own, I don't think you would wait 2 days to take them to the doctor.

No joke, get her to see someone right away. She'll most likely be dehydrated and need to go on a drip and they will need to find the source of her lethargy.

Good luck and I hope she gets better.

Dogs can act abnormally for a variety of different reasons. Sometimes, dogs can become temporarily lackadaisical due to fatigue or depression. In this case, some simple TLC can be a suitable cure. However, there are certain symptoms and behaviors that should be taken seriously. If your dog demonstrates any of the following symptoms, you should immediately take him or her to a veterinarian for a proper examination.

    Physical Symptoms

The skin, ears, eyes, nose and mouth can tell you a lot about whether or not a dog is ill. If you notice redness, swelling, crust or discharge coming from either the eyes or the nose, your dog might be suffering from a viral or bacterial infection. In this case, a veterinarian might be able to prescribe antibiotics to treat the infection and provide drugs that can relieve uncomfortable symptoms.

Take her to the vet - it's good that you've got her to drink but as she's not eating or walking something is probably wrong with her and it's best to get her diagnosed by the vet who will do their best to get her better for you (:

she may have ticks sucking her blood and making her feel drowsy, check if anywhere on her body hurts. but if its really bad a vet may be needed
