Are beetles harmful to seed germination?

I planted some poppy seeds yesterday and put them under a light in my closet. This morning I saw a black beetle walking on the soil and digging itself into a corner. I don't think its come out. Is this bad for seeds to germinate?

Beetles are a natural predator for insects that would attack a poppy plant but why take a chance. Apparently you didn't use fresh clean soil. Who knows what else is in the soil waiting to make your home theirs.

    Re pot the seeds.

It is probaly a common ground beetle and wont bother your seeds at all.

Beetles aren't going to kill your poppies, growing them in a closet will do that.
