Ping for game servers depends on the game server you are connecting to...

You are playing your game, and when you try the ping response to pingtest.net, it increases. If it increases that drastically, it almost seems like the bandwidth utilization of your link to the ISP is increasing. If you are using wireless it maybe that unauthorized users are joining your network and using some of your bandwidth. If you are in an apartment building the problem maybe that there are too many users in the building that all use the bandwidth at the same time that you do. There would be a router on site so it would be the link from the router to the ISP that is the problem.
