What is the apple computer airport express?
Okay I bought it in September 2013 so it will be the latest product, thinking that was like a mobile internet provider for the apple products. Just charge it up and carry it around and boom you'll have the internet no matter where you go, like a normal cell phone would have. But then I get it home give it as a gift only to find out that its more like a router? Or what is it? Will it extend my wireless range for each unit hooked up to it and how far will it go? The name airport express kinda threw me I guess.
I only mention this as an example buy I know there's an Apple tv app that lets you watch (kinda) live tv from your cable box. There's a bit of a lag the further away you are from your home and the cable box its hooked up to. I really hope that it will extend my existing wireless range. I don't want to open it till I know what it dose? The sales guy said that it would give apple computer products the ability to go wireless.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer your question.
The Apple Airport Express is a wireless router with a few bonus abilities for added value.
The Airport Express has the same abilities as the normal wireless router you would find in the networking section of your every day electronics store or department, but it can also extend an Airport Extreme or other Airport Express network. It has a 3.5" audio jack so you can connect powered speakers (such as computer speakers) and use AirPlay to listen to music from your iDevice (iPhone, iPad & iPod touch) or from iTunes on Mac or PC.
It is also great for frequent travelers who find themselves in hotels/motels that only offer a wired Ethernet connection for Internet consumption. So you can create your own wireless network in your room.
The Airport Express is a powerful little router that has the aforementioned extras built in.
The AppleTV is a completely different product that connects you to the iTunes store and many other apps for content consumption on your TV. Also the TV can mirror/AirPlay your iDevice (iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or newer or iPod Touch 5th generation) or your Mac running OS X Mountain Lion or newer on some Macs approx 2011 and newer.
I hope I have given you a good beginning to these products and feel free to amend your question if you have any other information you would like to attain.
Thank you for your time in advance.

The Airport Express is just a wireless device to connect devices to - not a 3G cellular device to connect you to the internet.

I won't say what thoughts are running through my mind at this moment in time. Only No wonder Apple have 146 billion in their bank account.
