When will things get back to normal?

5 nights ago my husband was followed home by a man who charged into the house behind him and attacked him with a gun in our front room. There was so much blood, I thought he was going to die. He is recovering well but even though the man is now locked up I'm still so scared all the time. I'm hardly sleeping or eating, and when I do sleep I have horrible dreams about that night. Every little sound makes me jump and I take a panic alarm with me everywhere I go. Has anyone been through similar? How did you cope? We also have a 2 year old Son so I can't take any strong medication. My friends live in other cities so can't get help from them and the only family I have is my mum...but she seems to think I should just get over it already.

Talk to a therapist. You need professional help in dealing with the whole situation. Perhaps ask the police if they can recommend a victim's group or something you could join?
